IMD issues heavy rainfall, thunderstorm alert for 16 districts

Bhubaneswar: Even as incessant rain has wreaked havoc in most parts of the State for the last two days, the regional centre of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) once again issued thunderstorm alert for 16 districts Friday.

“Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning and an intense spell of rainfall likely to occur at various places across districts like Sundergarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Balangir, Sonepur, Boudh, Kandhamal, Bargarh, Nuapada, Khordha, Puri, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Deogarh, Kalahandi and Kendrapara till 2 PM Friday”, the IMD said.

Meanwhile, all schools here have remained closed as per the state government’s direction due to rain. Besides, Collectors of four districts-Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Sundergarh and Kandhmal have declared holiday for schools Friday.
