Dhenkanal: In a shocking incident, a 28-year-old Anganwadi worker was brutally gangraped after being kidnapped by three youths and forcibly detained in a farm house at Kukudajhar village under Sadar police station in the district late Monday night.
The matter came to light after the victim managed to contact her family members who later rescued her.
Acting on a tip-off, police arrested the three accused based on the complaint filed by the victim. The accused trio was identified as Laxmidhar Biswal (38) of Joranda village and Antaryami Das (30) and Gobinda Pradhan (32) of Atinda village in Dhenkanal district. The cops also seized the car used in the kidnapping.
As per reports, the incident occurred while the survivor was returning to her house in Gondia block with her brother on a bike Monday evening.
The accused trio came in a car and intercepted them near a cashew plantation. They thrashed the victim’s brother and took the woman with them in the car. Later, the trio took her to a farm house and took turns to rape her. After committing the crime, the accused fled the spot leaving the woman at the spot.
Later, the victim’s brother along with police reached the spot and rescued her. Acting on a complaint lodged by the rape survivor, Gondia police arrested the three accused.
Dhenkanal SP Santosh Nayak said accused Laxmidhar has confessed that he raped the woman to settle a score, while the two others helped him to commit the crime.
“Laxmidhar said he had helped the Anganwadi worker get the job, for which she was supposed to give some money to the former. When she did not give the money, Laxmidhar hatched the plan to rape her,’ said Nayak.
Similarly, two such gangrape cases were reported in a single day from Balasore district Monday.
While a minor tribal girl was allegedly gangraped and sold to a brothel in West Bengal by one of her neighbours, another minor girl was allegedly gangraped by five persons under Raibania police limits of the district when she was alone at home.

Barbil: A girl was allegedly raped at Chatei Hutting under Barbil police limits in Keonjhar district Monday night. Police arrested the accused and his accomplice Tuesday. The accused was identified as Bhola Bahadur and his aide Rajesh Gopa. According to police, the girl was at her brother-in-law’s house. Monday, her bother-in-law and sister had gone to a hospital leaving her alone at house. Bhola entered the house while his aide Rajesh bolted the door from outside. After committing the crime, the accused fled the scene. A complaint was lodged with the police Tuesday. The police arrested the two and sent them to the sub-divisional hospital for medical examination. A further investigation is on, said IIC Jagannath Mallick.
